December Birchbox - Christmas Edition

It is no surprise that the December, Christmas Birchbox that was delivered to my door was a little more special this month.

Edinburgh Christmas Markets

Yesterday I finished work with a skip in my step...
Why I hear you ask? Well...let me explain.
My childhood best friend and I once spent a whole day in town wandering around the christmas markets, spending all our money on as much hot chocolate as we could possibly drink, and attempting as many rides as we could manage.

The Carrick Golf Spa, Loch Lomond

My man and I were hugely fortunate to have a time share all to ourselves for 4 days just after we arrived back in Scotland, after our holiday in the South of France.
The time share is linked with the gorgeous Cameron House Resort which is nestled on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Chasing the Sun in Limoux, South of France

Our day started off slow, as the rest of the family had gone on a hike. We were keen to take a slower pace, so we started with a picnic by the river.

Carcassonne, South of France

Carcassonne is only a short-ish car journey from Limoux, so it only seemed right that we went for a little visit.

It is a fortified French town, famous for it's Medieval Fortress - Cite De Carcassonne.
With the sun beating down on us, we took a gentle stroll through this magnificent structure and I have to say...it was not what I expected!

From the outside, it's impressive turrets and towers lead you to believe that inside will be a historic monument, with perhaps a sleeping princess or two...maybe a dragon...but it was so much more!
Inside the castle is it's own little village of boutique shops and restaurants, bars, gift shops, performers and more...
The grounds are simply bursting with beautiful designs and detail...
People come from far and wide to spend a whole day milling around the shops, marvelling at all the incredible buildings, before finding a resting spot in the sunshine to feast and drink the afternoon away.
And before you ask...yes I did drag my man into almost every single shop - but when they look this pretty, it is hard to resist!
We found a spot in the shade to have some lunch and a coffee before our little adventure continued...
The walk around the castle is just as impressive as it is inside, and leads you out to stunning views over the town.
Very hot and a little tired, we found ourselves wandering into Carcassonne, and every inch of it looked like it belonged on a postcard.
Pastel coloured houses with peeling paint and beautiful shutters, lined the streets of this charming town.
As the sun started to set, we stopped to admire the magnificent view we had left behind...
So that was just a little insight into Carcassonne, it is well worth a visit if you get the chance.

The next post coming is possibly my favourite of the trip so keep your eyes peeled!

Gluten Free Cinnamon Buns Recipe

In February, I went to Finland and found the most incredible gluten free cinnamon buns. Ever since then, I have been lusting after them...wishing I could find something similar - no joy!

So after looking at countless recipes and a test drive that left me with cinnamon flavoured hockey pucks...I think I have finally cracked it...

Birchbox First Impressions

I rarely treat myself to beauty products because I am always worried I won't like them and be disappointed, or they wont agree with my skin...the list goes on!

Massages, Mountain Temples and Elephants

Our second last day in Chiang Mai started with massages, and we were ever so slightly nervous...

I'm not going to lie, showing up for a massage and being guided in by a prison guard in uniform doesn't set the most relaxing tone, however our minds were soon put to rest.

We walked into a large room, with ambient lighting, gentle thai music humming in the background. With the wafts of tiger balm in the warm air, you soon start to feel everything relax.

Temples, Thai Food and The Walking Night Market in Chiang Mai

Just when you think you have seen the most Thailand could possibly have to offer, you are quite firmly brought back to reality.

This was certainly the case when Sammi and I entered Wat Phra Singh Temple.

Arriving in Chiang Mai, Thailand

My dream has always been to travel the world - to see as many incredible places as I can.

I love learning about different cultures, languages and meeting new people. So with my new sense of adventure, I took the plunge and booked flights to Thailand.

Lazy Sunday

Quite genuinely, there is nothing I love more than a lazy sunday.
A long lie, followed by coffee and breakfast made in pyjamas, surrounded by sleepy family members and partners in tow.
Onto more chilling out, before showers and throwing on something comfy. Then making something yummy for lunch, before taking the pup out for some fresh air.
Today was no exception, and with my new camera lens... I was more than ready to get outside.

We are really lucky that the Pentland hills are within walking distance and the hustle and bustle of the city is also within close range too. The best of both worlds on our doorstep.

Stressed Out Skin

There is nothing worse than waking up to a bad skin day.
I have always suffered from bad skin...
The full whack - oily, dry, sensitive, blemish prone, NIGHTMARE skin.
The older I get, the wiser I have become about maintaining healthy clear skin.
My mum has always instilled in me, since I was small, the importance of having a good skincare routine. She still gets mistaken for my sibling, and I truly believe her wise words are the key to her beautiful, youthful glow!
Finally I have found products that work for me, that keep all/most of my pesky skin worries at bay.
